The Issue
We demand The Public Health Agency of Canada to ban refined salt containing cyanide and other toxic ingredients to be sold to the public. Our health is more important than the food manufacturers’ profits!
Recent studies have indicated that salt hazards, such as high blood pressure, heart attacks, arterial, and kidney problems, are not related to common sodium consumption. On the contrary, because it is high in sodium, salt is essential for the absorption of major nutrients for the proper functioning of the nerves and muscles. Salt is also necessary for balancing water and minerals in the body. The main culprits for health problems related to salt consumption are the toxic agents used during the process of refining salt, such as cyanide, aluminium, bleach, etc.
How the poison gets into salt?
The refined salt is usually collected from salt mines, as brine. The brine is a highly concentrated solution of water and salt. Prior evaporation, brine is treated with chemicals to remove minerals. These chemicals include sulphuric acid or chlorine (bleach). Water is then evaporated under high compression and heat, which disrupts the molecular structure of the salt. To prevent caking and preserve the free-flowing of the salt, it is added up to 2% of toxic chemicals, including sodium ferrocyanide, ammonium citrate, and aluminium silicate. All these products have negative effects in the body. If one or two servings of refined salt will not kill us, continued daily use will seriously poison our bodies and damage our health.
Who benefits from refined salt?
To prevent goiter (swelling of the thyroid), iodine is added to the refined salt. Actually, iodine is the only additive healthy for consumers. However, because all the minerals are removed and replaced with toxic chemicals, the table salt becomes a lifeless product with the ability to stay years on the grocery shelves, maximizing food manufacturers’ profits.
