Kia ora koutou e te whānau,

The Waitematā Local Board met yesterday after being asked by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage to extend the Landowner Approval for the Erebus memorial.

It was another challenging meeting, but the outcome was a small step forward.  You can read the NZ Herald article here.

The Board voted to defer the decision on extending the Landowner Approval for three months to allow time for the Ombudsman to complete his report into Auckland Council.   Our Kaupapa has always been about holding space to let the light in and the truth to be told.  Yesterday we managed to keep holding that space.

Meanwhile the Ministry have been asked by the Board to remove the fencing and camera from the site entirely before 7th of December 2022.

We are hopeful that the Ministry will comply.

As always thank you for your support, and particularly to those of you who took the time to write letters to the Board.  That made a real difference.

Ngā mihi nui,

The Protect Mataharehare Team
