Kia ora koutou e te whānau,

Local Body elections are important and many of us don’t bother voting. This year, in Waitematā we need your vote.

We have asked the candidates where they stand on protecting Te Hā and moving the Erebus memorial to a more appropriate site.

Both Mayoral candidates, Wayne BROWN and Craig LORD, have said publicly that they will work to move the Erebus memorial.

In the Waitematā Local Board area, all Communities and Residents (C&R) candidates Sarah TROTMAN, Allan MATSON, Len WARD, Craig MOYLE, Gen SAGE and Chris SEVERNE, have publicly committed to support the community in moving the Erebus memorial, as has Independent Gael BALDOCK.

For the Waitematā and Gulf Ward, Mike LEE of Auckland Independents, has also pledged his support to protect Te Hā.

Listening to the voices of the community matters. The City Vision controlled current Waitematā Local Board voted against the 77% of the community who submitted in opposition to the Erebus memorial’s placement at Mataharehare. They voted with Wellington, against Erebus families, mana whenua and their community.

This CANNOT be allowed to happen again.  So, please, when you get your voting papers, vote for those who will stand with us in protecting Mataharehare and Te Hā.

Local Body elections matter. Your vote matters. Please use it wisely.

Ngā mihi nui,
The Protect Mataharehare Team
