Kia Ora

Since we presented the petition to Parliament, it has continued to grow and has now reached more than 14,500 signatures.

I have now been asked to make a further submission on the petition which we have completed with the support of from Dame Naida Glavish and the Protect Mataharehare team.  You can find a link to that submission here www.sosnz.org.nz

We are calling for a full select committee review of the process.  If that occurs, we can all make public submissions in support.  We will let you know how we get on and how you may be able to assist.

Dame Naida Glavish has again written to the Prime Minister asking her to abandon the plans to proceed with the memorial on Mataharehare Pā/Taurarua.

Dame Naida Glavish has also called for a full independent enquiry into the flawed process undertaken by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage.  You can find both letters here www.sosnz.org.nz

An application has been lodged with Heritage NZ Pouhere Taonga to protect Te Hā as Wāhi Tūpuna.  If accepted this will protect the mighty ancient Põhutukawa from any development that could harm him now or in the future.   You can learn more about this process here https://www.heritage.org.nz/protecting-heritage/maori-heritage

Questions have been raised about the stability of the cliff face and Parnell Community Committee has alerted the Waitematā Local Board to these previously unknown and therefore unconsidered risks.

They call into question, resource consent and Landowner approval and whether the memorial can proceed when there is such a significant risk of coastal erosion.  That letter is also on the sosnz.org.nz website.

The Peaceful Protect has now been running at Dove Myer Robinson Park for 135 days.  If you would like to donate in support please visit  https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/mataharehare or you can contact us at contact@sosnz.org.nz and we can provide back account details.

With thanks and kind regards

Ngā mihi nui
