Our Petition, to ‘Protect Pigeons and People who defend them, from abuse in parks and public places, by law’ was submitted to Prime Minister, Liz Truss on Monday 26 September 2022. It was sent to her online and by post to No 10 Downing Street.
I am still waiting to hear from the Prime Minister, and from my MP, who was hoping to give a speech in Parliament about pigeon abuse during October. So far, I have no further information about this.
Pigeons need full and effective protection under the existing Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981, as amended, which is there to protect them. Under the Act, it is an offence to harm any wild bird, including pigeons. This law is not currently being enforced. It needs to be enforced to protect pigeons. Please will you ask for your MP’s support in getting the Wildlife and Countryside Act enforced, so that all wild birds, including pigeons, are effectively protected from abuse?
Our petition currently has 13,578 signatures. See link below:-

I await positive action from the Prime Minister and from my MP!
Meanwhile, pigeons are still being maliciously maligned by the media, who seem intent on giving them a bad name. This is absolutely disgraceful, considering how many thousands of lives pigeons saved during both World Wars, as messengers, flying under extremely dangerous conditions, often wounded, to deliver messages which brought rescue and hope to thousands of stranded soldiers, sailors and airmen, without whose help their chances of survival would have been very slim indeed. The vital contribution made by pigeons in wartime must never be forgotten.
Please continue to share and sign this petition as far as possible. One day, we will get this relentless persecution of pigeons stopped. It should not be allowed to continue.
Many thanks for your support.
