Pigeons are sentient beings, who need protection under the new Animal Welfare Sentience Bill, currently being discussed in Parliament.
People who defend pigeons from abuse also need protection under the new law, because anyone who tries to intervene to defend pigeons currently risks their own personal safety.
Vets, and the RSPB agree that there is “no tangible health risk” to humans from contact with pigeons, and that the whole 'rats with wings' concept is just emotive nonsense. There is no evidence to show that pigeons spread disease. Please see Internet for details.
Despite this, there are still misleading notices in public places, claiming that pigeons are a health hazard. These contribute to cruelty towards pigeons.
