The George Tavern have decided to appeal the decision of the Planning Inspectorate to the High Court and submitted their appeal documents last week. This follows the Planning Inspectorate’s initial decision to overturn Tower Hamlet’s decision to deny property developer Swan planning permission for flats on the site adjacent to the George Tavern in October. Having spoken with landlady Pauline, she stressed that this is not a decision which she has taken lightly… The legal costs, and potential implications for the venue, are huge. With this in mind, Pauline and her team are fundraising to meet some of these costs and their iconic SAVE THE GEORGE t-shirts, as worn by a host of celebrities (Kate Moss, Sir Ian McKellen, John Cooper Clarke, Grace Jones, Georgia May Jagger and many more), are now available to purchase.
