REJECT BandK Universal's Planning Appeal and Request a Public Inquiry
THIS IS AN INTERNATIONAL CALL TO HELP BRITAIN'S HULL LOCALS STOP B&K UNIVERSAL'S PLANS TO BREED AROUND 2,000 BEAGLE DOGS ANNUALLY - AS WELL AS OTHER ANIMALS, SUCH AS GUINEA PIGS AND FERRETS - FOR VIVISECTION EXPERIMENTS
Every time you sign this petition your letter will arrive at the head office for the Planning Inspectorate who will decide the fate of 2,000 innocent purpose-bred Beagles, and other animals such as ferrets, guinea pigs and mice, born to be experimented on in traumatic and painful procedures which are NOT able to predict the responses of human patients, nor save human lives. These animals will be killed at the end of the experiments.
LEADING MEDICAL EXPERTS SAY - "ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS FAIL HUMAN PATIENTS"
Distinct from the clear moral objection to such appalling animal cruelty, this local campaign is additionally represented by the science-based Parliamentary initiative For Life On Earth, evidence illustrated by the world's leading medical experts against such animal experiments: Americans and Europeans for Medical Advancement (AFMA/EFMA).These expert scientists have proved that trying to apply the results of animal experiments to human patients FAILS humans, and causes great harm to the effective progress of finding new treatments to save people's lives. The president of AFMA/EFMA, Dr Ray Greek, was recently invited by the EU Commission as "the expert" to testify on behalf of 1.173 million EU citizens, who forced a rare Citizen's Initiative science hearing at the EU Parliament on May 11th: watch Drs Greek and Menache testify here. These experts have published numerous times in the peer reviewed scientific literature and have additionally published five books on the terrible, human cost of experiments on animals, culminating in the seminal work Animal Models in Light of Evolution (2009) Shanks PhD and Greek MD. For more information please visit the science-based campaign which represents us at For Life On Earth
MPs AND PUBLIC FIGURES SUPPORT US
Our campaign is supported by many public figures including acclaimed National Theatre actor and Downton Abbey star Peter Egan, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell and Ricky Gervais. The flagship campaign which illustrates our scientific evidence, For Life On Earth, is supported by the great concert pianist John Lill CBE; the long established Beagle Association and acclaimed primatologist and TV wildlife presenter Charlotte Uhlenbroek PhD. Prior to the recent General Election, eighty-three MPs signed Parliamentary EDMs 22 and 263 calling for properly moderated, public scientific debates with the medical experts who illustrate our evidence. These debate hearings are now being called for at a European level, and have conditions endorsed by Britain's foremost human rights defence barrister Michael Mansfield QC.
PUBLIC VOTES 'NO' TO ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS
In a live vote on ITV's 'This Morning' 81% of the total viewers voted NO to the question "is it right to conduct medical tests on animals?'
LOCAL RESIDENTS OF GRIMSTON, NEAR B&K UNIVERSAL ARE UNANIMOUS - they do not want to live near a unit which intensively breeds Beagle dogs, and other animals, for such vivisection experiments.
PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION !
THANK YOU from all at the Hull Local Campaign

The Planning Inspectorate comments
Appeal Reference (APP/E2001/A/14/2219468) refusal of planning permission (DC/13/03245/STLBC and DC/13/03244/STPLF) B&K Universal, The Field Station, Grimston Lane, Grimston, East Yorkshire, HU114QE
I have received confirmation that B&K Universal have lodged an appeal against the decision, November 2013 by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, to reject their proposal to expand their breeding facility to breed and house approx 2,000 Beagle dogs annually, as well as other animals, destined for experiments in vivisection laboratories.
I am writing to urge you to reject this appeal lodged by B&K Universal for the following reasons:
Substantial and serious local environment objections have been, and continue to be, raised to B&K Universal's application to extend their laboratory Beagle breeding facility (see below). This petition additionally focuses on up-to-date scientific knowledge supported by MPs in Parliament, who are calling for experiments on animals to be held to account through properly moderated, public scientific debates. An additional cross-party group are calling for an up-to-date scientific inquiry, on human medical and scientific grounds, 'as a matter of urgency'.
If granted permission, The Applications will cause much short and long-term disruption to the local area. The construction phase of The Applications is set to last over the period of 10 months. Such will involve regular deliveries of construction materials to, and the attendance of contractors at, The Proposed Development. Grimston Road does not have the capacity to handle such intensity in use as it is a narrow, winding lane. Additionally, Grimston Road is the only entrance point to The Proposed Development and all traffic will, as a result, pass through the small village of Grimston.
Further, The Applications are not in the local or national interest. The East Riding coastal region is highly dependent on tourism as an income and much investment has been placed into this industry over recent years. From 2009 hitherto, it is estimated that this particular sector brings £300 million of income per annum into the region.
However, The Applications are very high profile - with regular national media coverage and demonstrations expected - and therefore place the region's reputation into disrepute through adverse publicity. In comparison, the income generated by The Applicants is estimated to be only a fraction of this sum - £78,245 per annum - with the majority being taken out of the area through The Applicants American-based parent company, Marshall BioResources.
Moreover, Humberside Police will have the responsibility of policing The Proposed Development. In recent months, the force has faced budget cuts of £30 million with 850 jobs being lost. Policing costs at other establishments in the same line of business as The Applicants has cost millions and it is doubtful that Humberside Police can handle such an added burden.
Additionally, the Public Planning Inquiry in 2003, concerning a similar proposal for a primate experimentation facility at the University of Cambridge, found that construction of such a laboratory was not 'medically and scientifically in the national interest'. This precedent ruling was made on the strength of expert scientific evidence presented by doctors and scientists, who demonstrated how up-to-date understanding of evolutionary biology and complexity science explains why results from animal experiments can not predict responses of human patients, or save human lives. [7 - 8] This scientific position is further confirmed by an Open Letter against The Applications written by Ray Greek MD, president of the board of scientists who comprise the world's leading authority against the misapplication of veterinary knowledge (gained through animal experiments) to human medicine. Indeed, this up-to-date understanding of evolutionary biology is gaining support in Parliament through MPs who have signed EDM 263, as well as a cross-party group of MPs who have written to the Home Affairs Select Committee, submitting scientific evidence illustrated by the seminal work Animal Models in Light of Evolution (2009) Shanks PhD and Greek MD. Pharmaceutical companies also acknowledge the failure of animal models in their drug development process and write about this often and openly in the scientific literature. As such, the wider medical industry is moving away from the animal model - towards human-based science - and facilities such as B&K Universal are redundant. [10-12]
For the aforementioned reasons, I respectfully request that the Planning Inspectorate uphold the original rejection decision by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
