The 4th Branch of Government: The People

We, the People of the United States, petition for the creation of a People’s Branch of Government: a fourth co-equal branch that finally gives the people direct constitutional power in shaping laws, solving gridlock, and keeping government accountable to the will of the People.

Why is this change needed?
America is constantly at a breaking point. Congress is gridlocked, going back and forth in an eternal stagnation. Presidents stretch executive power. Courts make sweeping rulings that leave citizens powerless and ignored, running directly against what this nation was originally built for.

Trillions are spent on foreign wars and aid without citizen approval. Domestic crises: healthcare, border security, national debt. All left to stall in endless partisan battles and inaction of the representatives we have elected. Most importantly, laws are shaped more by lobbyists than by the voters.

The system is failing the people. We need a new check. We need a new balance.

 

The People’s Branch and How It Works

Petition Instigation: Private citizens launch verified digital petitions. If they reach thresholds (5–10% of voters), they must be recognized.

State Action First: States must draft laws reflecting petitions and our mandates.

National Escalation: If multiple states pass similar petitions, the issue escalates to Congress.

Judicial Safeguard: Courts review proposals for constitutionality.

People’s Review: Citizens approve or veto final drafts which ensuring laws reflect our will, not just the politicians.

Deadlock Breaker: If Congress fails to provide sufficient compromises in which the People agree with, the Executive facilitates panels or referenda but cannot override the people.

 

What the People’s Branch Solves

Gridlock: No more endless stalling: petitions force government action and elicit compromises over stagnation. 

Polarization: Red and blue states can act locally first, but only broad national consensus rises federally.

Forever Wars: Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine aid, under the People’s Branch, foreign conflicts and massive aid packages would require citizen legitimacy.

Lobbyist Influence: Petitions bypass corporate money and backroom deals.

Mistrust: The people gain a constitutional check on government drift.
 

Our Demand

We call on Congress and the states to begin the process of amending the Constitution to establish the People’s Branch of Government.

Like the Bill of Rights and the direct election of Senators, this is not radical. It is the next step in America’s evolution in representation.
