The president of Sri Lanka is considering pardone for a convicted murder out of death penalty. This is a serious lapse in the checks and balances among the parties of a governance, and imposes a threat to justice that structures the betterment of our lives. The convicted, facing death penalty as ordered and concluded by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka (after a rigorous and thorough examination of evidence that proved the defendant guilty without a reasonable doubt) is being considered for pardon by the Executive, blatantly undermining the rule of law, and the power of the judiciary. We, the people, exercise our right to justice through the judiciary. The executive (the president) does NOT have a right to alter, meddle with, or wield that power. This is for democracy.
