On August 20th 2018 a mob of criminals dismantled the statue of Silent Sam on the campus of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The protest during which this destruction of a War Memorial took place was well advertised in advance, giving the university ample time to ensure the security of this historic monument. Nevertheless, campus police took no action to safeguard Silent Sam and stood by and watched as the more than a century old statue was pulled down. 

Silent Sam was erected in 1913 as a memorial to the roughly 1,800 UNC students who took up arms in defense of the Old North State in the War Between the States. These young men surrendered their educational opportunities and risked their lives to defend their homes from a foreign invasion, many of them making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and their beloved UNC. Now that university has stabbed those martyrs in the back by allowing the destruction of their War Memorial. 

In response, we the undersigned pledge a boycott of the University of North Carolina until Silent Sam is returned to his rightful place. This boycott is to include UNC hosted events, sporting events, merchandise purchases, and monetary contributions and is to remain until the unlawful destruction of a memorial to North Carolina's war veterans is made right.
