The Issue

In the last one month, there has been a group of people protected by the UPDF cutting down the forest of Semuliki Forest in Bundibugyo district.

Almost half of the forest has been cut down by people with machines under the protection of UPDF and the local authority is silent about it

Semuliki forest in found in bundibugyo district where within the forest there is a Sempaya hot Spring, chimpanzees, monkeys and other wild animals of which the Ugandan government has been getting taxes through the tourists.

The forest has also been acting as a catchment area for rainfall within the district and the region at large.

Should this continue unchecked there will be fall in the tourist incomes the government has been getting due to the interest of few individuals, droughts will increase in Bundibugyo, the habitats for wild animals will no longer exist and this will increase poaching and hunting of these loitering wild animals.

Due to the distraction of the forest, agricultural products will reduce yet bundibugyo and Uganda at large depends heavily on agriculture.

Therefore I appeal to the people to support me to stop the deforestation of semuliki forest in bundibugyo.
