Criminalize Torture in Pakistan
The Issue
June 26th is the International Day In Support of Victims of Torture.
Torture is an unacceptable part of any civilised society. However, incidents of torture in police custody are regularly reported. Despite its obligations under the Convention Against Torture (CAT), Pakistan has yet to enact a law specifically criminalising it.
Torture is criminal. It should be a crime.
The use of torture corrupts the entire criminal justice system and puts innocent citizens in prison and on death row.
