Laws, rights and protection for ALL animals in Pakistan

Laws, rights and protection for ALL animals in Pakistan
The Issue
In over 70 years since Pakistan’s existence, there are still no active animal protection laws in the country. The law that is in place is vague, dormant, and does not cover every animal nor is it implemented or taken seriously.
Animal abuse is rampant in front our eyes from the way donkeys are overloaded, running on broken legs and beaten severely with sticks on main roads. Farm and labour animals eat from garbage dumps and there is no efficient medical assistance or support. Cows, goats, sheep and chickens are kept in conditions akin to the toxic wet markets because there are no standard operating procedures to follow. Farm animals and donkeys are transported on big trucks where they are cramped & made to stand for days on end, falling on top of each other. Friendly, vaccinated and collared street dogs are murdered brutally by giving poison and by shooting them. Breeding farms are countless where fancy breeds of dogs and cats are kept in the most awful conditions, as a business. Those animals bred at farms along with stolen pets and exotic wildlife are sold at filthy markets where they all cramped together in tiny cages in dark rooms with no ventilation. Wildlife in private zoos and zoos in general are in great distress, often starved, and completely isolated. Circuses and pet shops torture and starve animals. People declaw and keep lions as pets. Bear baiting and donkey races are common forms of entertainment. Our oceans are filled with waste that is killing marine life and creating toxicity in the waters.
On a daily basis, we see the most senseless brutalities and injustices happen with harmless animals. Acid being thrown on donkeys and sleeping kittens, a puppy’s ears and tail being cut off, gouging out a dog or cat’s eye, strangling dogs with wires and hanging, dogs being pelted with stones by children, boiling water thrown on cats, paws of cats being cut off, ears of dogs being sliced off. Dogs being injured during dog fights as a sport for gambling. Roosters being injured in cock fights as a sport for gambling. Dogs and cats being run over by vehicles and left paralysed. Drowning puppies and kittens. Pets being abandoned, abused & neglected. Rape of donkeys and dogs that people think is a joke. These are just a small number of the abuse cases done at the hands of people that we Rescue daily without any government support or protection laws for animals. There is NO justice for the most vulnerable in society and violence is prevalent to a point that now civilians are on roads shooting innocent sleeping dogs in broad daylight. Animal abuse is also the first indicator of violence towards vulnerable humans like children. Violence escalates as its victims become riskier when abusers know they can get away with it. Animals in the country right now are seen as private property used to make money. They are not seen as living beings with their own needs, feelings and rights. A civilised society cannot exist unless the most vulnerable that cannot speak for themselves are given a voice. All other violence, intolerance and injustice is directly linked to the lack of respect and compassion towards animals.
