As human beings we have made this world into something beautiful, however we’ve also caused this world much distraught. The marine life is suffering at the hands of our commercial fishing techniques. Today in California and in parts of Mexico we use a method to catch swordfish called, gillnets. These gillnets catch swordfish, but they also catch marine life such as, seals, great white sharks, and turtles that get trapped in these nets and eventually die. The unintentional catches are called bycatch. The numbers of bycatch are rising and will lead to the decline or even extinction of these creatures. More monitoring and policing of the fishing industry and the banning of gillnets would aid these helpless animals on the path to revitalization.
