THE OPTION TO OPT - OUT FROM LGBT EDUCATION AT SCHOOL

The Issue

My 10 year old son came home today from school wearing a LGBT Flag pinned to his sweater. My son is also Autistic & attends a SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health School). My son said the LGBT Education made him feel uncomfortable & that it was confusing to him because of his own understanding from a religious perspective contradicting with what he knew.

I was not made aware previously by the school that my son was about to embark on LGBT Education. I was aware that the government were introducing this into the curriculum but to have been notified prior to it commencing would of given me the opportunity to decide whether or not my son takes part. It is well within my parental right to decide whether or not I want my son to take part in such Education.

Starting this petition is to give parents their parental right & authority in whether they want they’re child/children to be taught the LGBT framework or to have the option to OPT-OUT.

I strongly believe that our children have the right to be protected against the INFLUENCE of teaching on LGBT Education as I believe at such a young age this potentially can bring an imposed decision on their own decision making, potentially leaving detrimental effects on a child’s childhood & adulthood.

I am not a homophobic & this petition is not based on prejudice against the LGBT community. I believe & also my family & son believes that everyone is entitled to be who they want to be & in that, loved, accepted & respected for who they are. I believe that teaching about LGBT for wider knowledge is a good informative but I don’t believe that it should be mandatory.

Each individual child, parent & family should be given the CHOICE to either want to participate or to be educated in LGBT Education as in the same way the LGBT community have a voice I strongly believe that so should each child, parent & family.

This petition will be sent to MP’s & the LEA.
