Charge Matthieu Arbour andfor their act of animal abuse.
The Issue
Matthieu Arbour, 21, and ., face animal cruelty charges following an incident at Vaughan Mills Mall on Sunday June 10th, 2012.
York Regional Police said they were called about a dog locked inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the popular mall just north of Toronto on Sunday afternoon.
Police and fire crews attempted to rescue the dog -- a young chocolate Labrador retriever named Tucker -- but it was too late.
When police arrived on the scene the temperature was 28 Celsius. They reported that temperatures inside the car would have been much higher.
Matthieu Arbour and were arrested at the scene and charged with causing unnecessary suffering to animals.
They are scheduled to return to a Newmarket, Ont., court on July 10.
It is said that Ontario has some of the strongest animal protection laws - we want to see them in action. At the age in Canada where one is able to legally vote, drive, drink and enlist in the military as an independent adult there is no excuse for negligence and abuse towards animals.
This petition is to ensure that the two accused are not let off with a small penalty. We request that Ontario Court give a strong penalty for causing such ignorant neglect to another living creature.
The Provincial Animal Welfare Act, which took effect on March 1, 2009 reads:
■Establishes standards of care for all animals.
■Introduces penalties for causing harm to any animal including jail terms of up to two years, fines of up to $60,000 and a potential lifetime ownership ban.
We want to see Matthieu Arbour and charged with at least $40,000.00 in fees, given a substantial amount of volunteer time preferably 400 hours nowhere near animals and a lifetime ownership ban.
