Don't close the OSU Skatepark

Don't close the OSU Skatepark
The Issue
OSU has started the process of removing the skatepark known as "Campus "Ramps" on Kenny Rd (which is used by thousands of children, students, and young adults each year) in order to make way for a new soccer field (despite the fact that the currently adjacent soccer fields are sparsely used).
I post this as both a skateboarder and an employee of OSU. The university should embrace all sports, not just the “conventional” ones. OSU seems to neglect the skateboarding community despite the fact there in 2012 there were more skateboard participants than in other sports such as Field Hockey, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Track and Field, Wrestling, etc* (for which OSU provides excellent facilities).
OSU should be more vested in the skatepark's success and focus on improving the facilities, not getting rid of them.
I volunteered at a skatepark in the Columbus area for many, many years and I saw the positive effect that it has on people’s lives. It helps their self esteem, gives them a sense of community while giving them a safe place to practice their craft, and builds long lasting friendships (not to mention it’s great exercise).
