Denounce Columbus Day and recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day.

In America we dedicate an entire day of celebration to an individual who is responsible for the robbery, genocide, human trafficking, and dehumanization of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas. Every year we celebrate Columbus Day and acknowledge Christopher Columbus for "discovering America". It is appalling that we continue this tradition in honor of a man that brought so much destruction to Indigenous Peoples in the name of colonialism. We call upon The Ohio State University and President Drake to denounce Columbus Day and instead acknowledge Indigenous Peoples' Day instead. We want to celebrate the first peoples of this land- past, present, and future- instead of glorifying a man that sparked the destruction of those peoples over the span of 500 years. By signing this petition you are showing your support for Indigenous Peoples across the Americas and acknowledging that Columbus Day must come to an end.
There will be a candlelight vigil to honor Indigenous Peoples-past, present, and future- on Monday, October 13th at 7:00 PM at Mirror Lake at The Ohio State University Main Campus. Please join us in progressing forward and making our voices heard.
