Despite the overwhelming scientific consensus that testing cosmetics and their ingredients on animals is unproductive and precarious, cosmetics companies can still sell products tested on animals in the United States. A lot of people don't care about the animals, but you should at least care about the fact that it is harmful to you. 

Why Testing Cosmetics on Animals is Harmful to You:

The majority of the scientific community agrees that when you use the regular tests these companies use ( which will be discussed in the animal section of this petition ) it will not tell you if the ingredients are dangerous to humans. There is more complicated science to it, but think of it this way. You have a shampoo for you, and your dog has a shampoo for them. Every animal has their own natural Ph, so what may not harm a guinea pig's skin or eyes, might harm yours. Another reason tests are innacurate comes from the conditions in which the animals live. Rats, for instance require lots of socialization, breathing room, stimulation and so on. If they are kept in these environments ( more in later section ) then they will be sick, and will not show accurate test results.

What Actually Happens to These Animals?

These animals live a life of suffering; mainly bunnies, guinea pigs, and rats. Though some see these animals as test subjects, science says differently. A recent study found that rats are ticklish and laugh just like we do. Bunnies are held in full body restraints (which could snack their back if the bunny moves too much) as corosive liquids are droped onto their eyes or placed on the skin. They are left to suffer for weeks, sometimes even months, with open scabs and sores. Rabbits are delicate creatures, and have trouble staying calm. 

Rats are forced to go through "Lethal Dose Tests" a widely discouraged practice in where the animals are forced to inhale, eat, or be injected with extremely high doses of an ingrediant to see what the lethal dose is. Of couse, new research has come out explaining that the metabolism of rats is such that most dosage tests like this are innacurate for humane dosing. These animals are subject to unspeakable living conditions; rats require air flow or they will get upper respritory infections, and the two places they are kept in are either tuppoware type boxes, or the equivilant of a snake tank, both of which cause them to endure imence pain and suffering. They are not recieving the care they require, so the "experiements and tests" these companies do have too many variables. 

How Else Can You Test? 

Science has come a long way, but greed still exists. These is a synthetic human skin on the market for these companies that allows them to test new ingrediants without the use of animals. These will be less harmful to animals and are more accurate than the traditional animal tests. The problem is greed, rats can be produced for cents, and these synthetic skins can get pretty pricey, but if they re do their system, they won't have to be out much money. 

What Are We Proposin?

We the people are proposing that the Obama Administration put forth the legislation to ban cosmetic sales in the US of products sold by companies that test their final products or ingrediants on animals. We also propose a tax brake or incentive to those companies that already comply. (ELF, Wet n' Wild, Too Faced, It Cosmetic, ECT.)
