Norway should spare the 47 of its 68 remaining wolves it is set to cull

The issue

Hello, my name is Jess Colby.

I have recently found out that Norway is going to cull 47 of its 68 wolves. Wolves are already critically endangered and this cull will kill approximately 70% of the Norwegian wolf population. The cull or as I see, the massacre is set to begin on the 1st of October in 11 days from now. This will be the worst wolf massacre in Norway in over a 100 years.

But why? The same old reason. It is being claimed that the wolves are killing livestock. There does not seem to be any adequate proof that wolves are the problem and are killing livestock as livestock in Norway are let out into a paddock without any supervision. Of course wolves will occasionally kill livestock but massacres are not the solution.

Alternatives to massacres include but are not limited to government compensation and guardian dogs. One pack that has been doomed is a pack in a place called Letjena in Southern Norway and has never killed livestock. It is not just the adults wolves that will be doomed to die. Cute innocent wolf puppies will also be killed!

Why do I care? I love all animals and wolves are my favourite animal. I believe in the conservation of nature and the extinction of any animal or plant is a great tragedy. Wolves are one of the most beautiful and nobel animals. Wolves are an important animal in the ecosystem as they are a top order predator and control the populations of lower order animals such as deer.

By doing this massacre, it could cause the extinction of wolves in Norway as the leftover wolves would not be enough to sustain the wolf population. It could also reduce the genetic diversity of Norwegian wolves and cause inbreeding. Inbreeding would result in weaker wolves that will be more vulnerable to changes and other factors.

Weaker wolves would decrease the survival of the species as nature's law states survival of the fittest or only the strong survive. By doing this petition, I hope to save not just the 47 wolves set to be culled but all wolves in Norway. Wolves need protection from disastrous actions like this. By signing this petition, we can hope fully save the wolves of Norway.

Take a stand for the wolves who can not speak for themselves and please sign this petition. Signing this petition will only take a minute at most. Every person who signs this petition brings us closer to our goal and brings these wolves more hope. Thankyou for helping save the Norwegian wolves.
