Dear all,

Thank you for your on-going support and for continuing to share this petition widely.

After months of waiting, delays, and endless uncertainty, Dill was finally discharged on September 22nd - but it was far from the relief we had hoped for.

Discharge story

Dill’s discharge was postponed multiple times, often at the very last minute. Each delay brought more emotional strain, anxiety, and exhaustion. Team Dill was left in limbo - unable to plan or prepare, constantly forced to chase updates that should have been clearly communicated.

Dismissed Pain and Dangerous Decisions

Throughout the process, Dill’s severe pain was repeatedly dismissed as “mild discomfort”. When Dill was previously transferred, ketamine was used to make the journey safe. This time, every request for adequate pain medication was met with resistance. It took countless emails, meetings, and explanations just to secure basic pain relief.

Even after all that, a senior doctor joked, “We’d like to get rid of you”. But this wasn’t a joke - it was a dangerous situation. Without proper pain management, Dill faced serious physical risk during the transfer.

Dill’s medical history was known: a high medication tolerance and IBS that can flare dangerously during long ambulance journeys. Yet safer alternatives were resisted again and again. Only after relentless advocacy did Team Dill finally get permission for Dill to take their regular pain medication before and during the transfer.

Unsafe Ambulance Planning

An ambulance service that had already said NO - stating they couldn’t safely access Dill’s home - was still booked anyway, simply because it was free for LTHT. Even after a private, suitable provider was found, the unsafe option was suggested again as “backup”.

This wasn’t just poor planning. It was a blatant disregard for Dill’s specific, documented needs.

Unaddressed Health Risks

While in hospital, Dill developed a new pressure injury. No guidance was given, and a proper care plan was only agreed to at the last moment after repeated chasing.

Ongoing bleeding and UTI symptoms were brushed aside. Tests were taken - but results were unclear, and no follow-up was provided. These are not small details; they are serious health concerns that should have been addressed before discharge.

Emotional and Psychological Harm

The toll has not only been physical. Being told their pain was “mild” - that their needs didn’t matter - left Dill feeling dismissed, unsafe, dehumanized. And now, the mental health team assigned to support Dill is led by someone currently under misconduct investigations - including allegations of racism, sexual harassment, physical threats, and inappropriate behaviour towards Dill.

Where is Accountability?

Communication between the hospital ward, ICB, ambulance service, and Team Dill was fragmented and inconsistent. Critical issues - medication, transport, infection risk - were left unresolved until the last moment.

Team Dill had to act as project manager, for Dill’s safety. People should not have to fight this hard just to ensure basic, safe care.

The Moment of Freedom

When Dill finally left the hospital, they took off their mask, breathed in the first fresh air in what felt like forever, and looked up at the sky.

For a brief moment - it felt like they could live again.

But the relief was heavy and bittersweet.

How is Dill Doing Now?

After 13 months trapped in a medical institution under several harmful conditions, Dill is traumatized, unable to walk, and now depends on 24/7 care to function.

There have been countless safeguarding investigations into how Dill’s physical and psychological safety was compromised - yet the harm continues. The institutions responsible for Dill’s care have responded with gaslighting, aggression, and control, centering their own authority instead of compassion or accountability.

Dill has even felt threatened into silence after deeply concerning comments were made about their identity and un-based accusations on their behaviour. Despite Team Dill’s consistent efforts to build bridges and communicate respectfully, the system has chosen control over care, and silence over truth.

How is Dill Coping?

Recovery will be long and uncertain. Dill is forced to keep engaging with the very institutions that further disabled them, just to receive life-saving care. They feel broken - at times, saying they would “rather just let go”.

But Dill has also found strength in the community that refuses to look away. Your messages, shares, and love have given them moments of hope and connection amid unbearable pain.

Dill sends their deepest gratitude and love to everyone who has stood with them - online and in person. They want you to know how honoured and humbled they feel to have your support.

We’ll update again when Dill and the team are able to engage more. For now, they are focusing on survival, healing, and holding on to the hope that this fight will lead to real change.

This Fight Isn’t Over

Discharge doesn’t mean safety. What Dill endured is unacceptable. No one should ever have to go through this.

We will keep fighting for accountability - and for change.

Your support has carried us this far. Now, we need it more than ever.

We will continue to chart Dill's journey, as the tireless experience of accessing Disabled healthcare is consistently overlooked.

Dill is going to make themselves vulnerable and let you all in to their reality:

The fight for the right to a meaningful life.
