The #WeAreTheBlackCap campaign team are having a PUBLIC OPEN EVENING on TUESDAY 22nd MARCH at 7pm at Bloc Bar (upstairs), 18 Kentish Town Rd, London NW1. We want to hear your campaigning ideas, and what we need to be doing as a campaign team moving forward. We have plenty of ideas to share and we want your suggestions to move forward with the campaign! Two weeks ago, the team met with Ruth & Robinson who presented their updated vision document detailing their plans for the future of The Black Cap. Unfortunately, whilst they made some steps towards working with the community, they have made it clear that they will not compromise on two points: 1. They will not be calling the venue The Black Cap 2. They will not open a specifically LGBTQ+ venue As far as we are concerned these are points on which we will simply not negotiate. We have reached an impasse. Why should the London-wide LGBTQ+ community lose a part of their history and culture, as well as a home, for the sake of one more trendy bar? We are keen to hit the ground running with this and come out strong against this move which, whilst they claim to want to work with us, means The Black Cap will no longer exist. This is unacceptable and we need to fight this decision with everything we have. Come and share your opinions with us tomorrow. We WILL win this fight. Alex, Aoife, Ben, Chris, Joe, Nigel, and Zack, Black Cap Foundation.
