Every week, our Saturday vigils show the world the ongoing determination of the #WeAreTheBlackCap campaign to reopen our beloved Black Cap pub and performance venue as a home for the LGBT+ community and its friends in Camden and beyond. But much is going on behind the scenes as well. One big development is that the Black Cap Foundation is now officially a registered not-for-profit company. This means we can not only maintain our campaigning but also look to the future – to ensure our community can hold a stake in the Black Cap, and to support other spaces of queer community and culture so they don’t disappear forever. The new Black Cap Foundation company is currently finalising its own plans for operating the pub in readiness for when Ruth and Robinson see sense and reopen the site as the lucrative LGBT+ venue it was, or back off. These plans will demonstrate its potential to investors and partners and show how this historic and iconic venue can once again become the jewel in the crown of Camden's wonderfully diverse scene. Working with you as our campaigners and voice, the Foundation's Objectives are: 1. Using all available good-will, resources and networks to ensure The Black Cap public house is re-opened, and is once again a successful entertainment and performance venue for the LBGT+ and wider community. 2. Utilise the skills, knowledge and experience to advise and assist others fighting to keep community spaces open 3. Support new LGBT+ ventures, with a particular emphasis on those that support and encourage performance and arts that are important and relevant to the LGBT+ community. We would like to thank particularly Alex Green who put so much work into getting the Foundation recognised. This is a great moment for campaigners. We could not have achieved what we have so far without YOUR voice and numbers. Next, we are going to substantially raise the campaigning pressure further to re-open our pub over the next 2 weeks, and you will have an opportunity to get immersed in a very different type of campaign initiative to help us achieve this. Watch out for this, it is quite a different campaign inititiative, and when you see it, it is one you'll be very glad to get involved in, with a win win outcome for all if we are successful!
