Issued by Chris Clark for Black Cap Foundation
Dear all,
Firstly, thank you for your support for the LGBT+ Black Cap Pub in Camden Town, and now a very overdue update for you.
Since the closure for those of you who have been following the story, it has been a tale of twists and turns by owners Kicking Horse to turn the premises into anything other than an LGBT+ Pub, with their intentions roundly blocked at every turn.
Organised by the Black Cap Foundation (see http://www.weareblackcap.com/), with a new site and very busy facebook page at #WeAreTheBlackCap the campaigning is vociferous, organised, motivated, and increasing in strength.
The weekly vigils have continued all through Winter, we have a Foundation Launch evening on 2nd March, and will have a particularly colourful anniversary vigil outside the pub in April.
In December, Kicking Horse finally signed a 25 year deal with operator Ruth and Robinson without talking to our supporters, and Ruth and Robinson have to their credit realised the problem and sought to engage the LGBT+ community to persuade them of their vision. They have made concessions but it is not going to be enough and we are writing to them again later this week. However, we do believe that we can work well with them given the right agreement.
Guardian journalist Ben Walters has written an incredible piece on the position of the negotiations and the negotiating parties as they stand this weekend. We wanted to share this with you, it is a fascinating read, and shows why campaigners are feeling confident this week. It is at:

So let us all keep the pressure on at full strength. This pub is one the developers and format changers are not going to get! And thank you for your support.
