This summer in Australia, we have seen unprecedented weather conditions fueling never before seen bush fires across the whole country.

This petition seeks to recognise the Rural Volunteer Firefighter, representing all rural firefighters in Australia as a special recipient of the Australia Day honours in 2020.

At the front line fighting these bush fires are the volunteers. The many thousands of women and men who volunteer their time, and in some cases their own finances to ensure the strongest fight possible against these horrendous conditions.

As nominations have already closed and state finalists already selected for the 2020 Australia Day honours, the official process to nominate Australian of the year for 2020 has already passed.

Through this petition, we hope that the board of the National Australia Day Council make a special exception to honour all of those firefighters who have worked tirelessly over the Australian summer to fight for all Australians.

We call on National Australia Day Council to consider this request on behalf of all Australians who have signed this petition.
