Stop a new 36 metre cellphone mast and base station in the middle of Dullstroom

The Issue

It has come to our attention that UrbanSignal has applied to construct a 36-metre cell-phone tower and base station on erf 219 Bluecrane street in the middle of Dullstroom, this in a residential area between a number of prominent guesthouses.

We wish to object to the installation of a cell phone tower at the designated location for a number of reasons:

i) It will be an eyesore for guests, residents and visitors;

ii) It is bordered on all sides by residential properties;

iii) Security issues will be created, if access to the tower is open;

iv) Potential health issues caused by radiation;

v)  If radiation is not an issue we do have guests and visitors that would avoid these guest houses due to their personal believes and opinions;

vi) No indication has been provided of what remuneration the stand-owner will be receiving, when it will be at the expense of the surrounding guesthouses;

vii) No indication has been given of other sites that have been considered.

We do realise that the tower will provide benefits for the town, but struggle to understand why the tower is being constructed immediately in the town centre, instead of on one of the nearby hilltops or land further away from inhabited areas.

Objections must be submitted to the Municipal Manager of Emakhazeni Municipality by 15 March 2021.
