Hello,
Thank you for your support of The MSU "Do Better" Petition. I wrote this petition in October when the Covid landscape was much different and sent it to University administrators and Deans of all undergraduate schools in November. Presently, Covid numbers are increasing on campus and MSU’s has stated their recent decision to go remote for three weeks is motived by a desire to ensure infected students do not fall behind. In light of these considerations, the facts laid out in the petition no longer apply and I am closing the petition.
The petition had two main goals: to increase the amount of in-person learning and to improve the quality of remote learning. If in the next three weeks, your student feels frustrated with the quality of online classes, please urge him or her to email the department head and dean of that college with their concerns. They are the first line of action with an instructor who is simply putting old videos online instead of meaningfully engaging with students.
Like all of you, I care deeply about the quality of our students' educational experience. My deepest hope is that with the recent parent and student engagement around these issues, MSU will do better for our students this coming spring and will return to greater in-person learning.
Thank you,
Terry Heyman
