We are delighted to announce that Shreveport Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy received approval on April 8, 2021 from the National Park Service to maintain our National Register listing for our monument throughout the entire relocation project. We have also received preliminary authorization to keep our Register status at our new site on private property at the Pleasant Hill battlefield site. We will provide the Park Service documentation upon completion of the relocation to obtain final approval.
The continuation of our National Register status comes at a crucial time now that Caddo Parish has indicated to us that it received a proposal on April 1st for moving the monument.
Information on the contractor, their qualifications, and specifics of the submitted proposal have not yet been disclosed as details are still under review by the project consultant hired by the parish. According to the parish’s project timeline, complete details regarding the contractor’s proposal are expected in a few weeks.
Please join us in celebrating this important achievement, acknowledging our devotion to our Confederate heroes, for those who gave their all defending our Southland, and the artistic genius of sculptor Frank Teich.
