July is a time of remembrance.  A time to give thanks for those American patriots who fought for our country’s independence.  A time to be grateful for the sacrifices of those Southern patriots lost at Gettysburg and Vicksburg.

It is also a month to remember that a year has passed since the court ordered the parish to pay for all costs to move our monument to its new home.

The parish solicited bids for the move and received a proposal.  That bid was in line with an expert’s estimate, but exceeded the parish’s under estimated budget.  

The ball is back in the parish’s court to again request bids and hopefully come to realize that  their current budget is inadequate to do the job properly and needs to be increased.

In the meantime, let’s give thanks to all American Veterans.  They are the reason we can celebrate independence, freedom, and our American Heritage.
