The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) has announced that it is suspending its cuts to face-to-face debt advice.
MaPS has paused the rolling-out of new regional debt advice contracts and will be providing face-to-face debt advice services with grants for a minimum of 12 months.
This fantastic victory would not have been possible without the collective action of frontline debt workers and our supporters. Thank you to everyone who has supported our campaign!
Of course, we will continue to scrutinise MaPS and fight for community-based face-to-face debt advice. Frontline debt advisers should be properly consulted as part of MaPS future planning so that we can help secure long-term future of debt advice. Any funding model must protect our members' pay and conditions and make advice effective and accessible to everyone who needs it.
We also welcome MaPS’ decision to abandon the overly-bureaucratic DAPA quality scheme from the end of March. We want to help shape a new light-touch scheme that treats debt advisers with the respect they deserve.
Thank you again for all your support.
