MAKE PADS FREE FOR SCHOOL GIRLS

It is surprising to note that at this present time and age, most girls in the rural communities improvise with rags in place of sanitary pads. This is not unrelated to the high price of pads in Nigeria. 

Every month comes the anxiety, the worries and the shame. It is natural and ordained by God; in fact, for an unmarried female, it is meant to be a thing of joy. Why then do we have to suffer for something we were never asked to choose?

Girls of school age who cannot afford sanitary pad miss school for at least five times every month to avoid the shame and trauma of getting stained. If there is a dire need of going to school, they prefer to take the punishment of kneeling all through school hours than the shame of being stained. Recalling her most embarrassing moment as a girl, a school age girl mentioned how her rags fell off her panties during sports in school. The laughter, shame and trauma has made her to hate school. There are countless cases like that in the rural communities. 

This is a call to the Ministry of Health in conjunction with the Ministry of Education in Nigeria to equip Schools and Hospitals with Sanitary pads in order for schools age girls to get them for free.
