CALL FOR AN IMMEDIATE HALT ON ILLEGAL OUTSOURCING OF LUDERITZ ELECTRICITY 

SECRET DEAL ON LUDERITZ ELECTRICITY?

We, Residents of Luderitz and Concerned Rate-payers hear that certain individual Luderitz Town Councillors are arranging for a private Walvisbay company 'Conselect' to take over Luderitz Electricity supply assets and accounts.

A draft agreement will apparently be presented to the Luderitz Town Council for final approval without further ado.

This is totally unacceptable. There are serious issues involved:

1. Council procedures apparently not applied.
2. No public involvement, discussion or information.
3. The speed with which the Attorney-General's office 'scrutinized' a so-called draft agreement to a scheme apparently without checking its authenticity or procedures.
4. Relevant officials unaware of such decisions or details.
5. The suspicion of underhand dealings, hence of shady intentions.
6. No consideration of impacts on Rate-payers - or Council - of such a deal.

We, therefore, the undersigned Residents and Concerned Rate-payers of Luderitz hereby petition the Luderitz Town Council and respected Addressees to:

• (a) Call an immediate halt to such activities;
• (b) Defer any decision to part with any such Luderitz Electricity assets or accounts to any other party including a RED;
• (c) Immediately open a full public enquiry;
• (d) Consider the possibility of criminal intent and/or activity (hence charges).  

We appeal for urgent action and wide support, with thanks in advance.
