“It is time to blow this horror show out of the water once and for all. The killing is a violation of the Berne Convention and Denmark needs to be brought to task. If the Faeroese and Denmark are going to enjoy the benefits of the European Union, they need to abide by the laws of the European Union.”

The Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats classifies the long-finned pilot whale as “strictly protected” under Appendix II. The Denmark government IS "a member" of the European Union. From now on,  Denmark send the police to Faroe Island to ASSIST, AID AND ABET THE BREACH OF The Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats. All trade with EU countries is handled through the Danish foreign ministry.  The slaughter of cetaceans is illegal within the European Union.

Denmark fails to abide by their obligations as a co-signer of the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (also known as the Bern Convention).
The plundering of the oceans is our common issue, we all have the right to say STOP!

The amount of mercury was closely related to how much pilot whale the mothers had consumed. When the children were 6 years old, they were thoroughly examined. As it turned out, there was a connection between the amount of mercury found in the core blood and the children’s development in several different areas. Among the areas mentioned are memory, language and alertness. The concentrations of PCB and DDT in the core blood were found to be 5-10 times higher than those found in other European countries. These toxins take longer to break down than mercury, and there is a suspicion that they may affect a person´s central nerve system and sperm quality.

Many people come from all over to watch the slaughter, and when it's done, eat the whales' meat. That that is not consumed is simply thrown away.

The Faroese are all but decimating an entire species of precious marine mammals and it must be stopped now

Normally, the narrow coves of the Faroe Islands tend to be crowded during the annual Grindadráp. The yearly hunt for pilot whales involves using boats to drive scores of the animals (actually dolphins, despite the name) into shallow waters, where they are stabbed to death.

Last year, about 2,000 pilot whales were killed in the ‘whale killing’, known colloquially as ‘the Grind’. This year, though, the inlets where the hunts take place are going to see even more activity than normal, after the police in the self-governing member of the Danish kingdom announced that naval and police special forces were going to be on the water when the hunts happen.

The deployment is targeted against Sea Shepherd, an environmental group known for its extreme tactics, which announced in June that it was planning its biggest effort yet to stop the Grind. In announcing its ‘Operation Grindstop 2014’, which runs from June 17 until October 1, Sea Shepherd said it would “take direct action to intervene and stop the Grind from taking place using land, sea and air tactics”.
