RESCUE NEW LEGON-ADENTA POLICE STATION LAND BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.

The Issue

New Legon is a fast growing community in the Adenta constituency, originally planed with spaces allocated for social and infrastructural purposes.

At the time of this petition, all these spaces have been sold by former NDC MP, Hon. Daoud Anum Yemoh, effectively rendering the community a high end residential slum.

In 2008, armed robbers started terrorizing residents in our community. Given the frequency of these incidents, Alhaji Ali Anum Yemoh, sole Executor and Co-administrator of the Estate of the late Anum Yemoh, re-allocated a new parcel of land within the community, for the purpose of
building a police station. Subsequently, an indenture marking the lawful ownership of the land, was
issued to the Police Service in 2016. This re-allocation became necessary, as all original spaces meant for social/infrastructural use, had been sold by Hon. Daoud Yemoh.

Following this re-allocation, the residents mobilized and contributed funds towards the construction of the Police station and appealed to the Ghana Police Service for assistance on the project. The Estate Department then visited, inspected the land, and later issued drawings and letters
copying the Adenta Divisional Police Command to give the residents the needed support.

Recently though, and not the first time, we are having to fend off encroachers from the land.
Since Wednesday January 13th, 2021, encroachers have gone on to the land, and are relentlessly working as we petition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Hon. Daoud Yemoh is responsible for the sale of this land as well.

The Adenta Divisional Police Command is fully aware of the situation, they indeed advised the
donor / residents to sue the encroachers as they (Divisional Command) cannot stop them from
working.

The Residents however thought it wiser to petition the IGP. This indeed proved to be a positive step. The office of the IGP ordered that the encroachers stop work and all parties stay off the site, while it investigates the matter. We deem this approache as very professional.

As residents, we see a looming social problem, as we are witnessing snatching of bags on
our streets, seizure of cars at gun point and serveral armed robbery cases in our homes. These incidents indeed, have left us living in fear as our security is seriously under threat.

We the residents of New Legon, call the attention of all duty bearers petitioned in here, asking for immediate action to rescue this piece of land and call former NDC MP Hon. Daoud Yemoh to order.

Our security as law abiding citizens of this country is at stake.
