Dear Friend of the Arborway Committee for Public Transit, Inc.,
We would like to update you on our activities during 2015, and share our plans for the coming year.
The main event of 2015 was a presentation at the Connolly Library on July 15, by Jeff Ostroff of T4M (Transportation for Massachusetts) and Srdjan Nedeljkovic of the Arborway Committee for Public Transit (ACPT), on good public transportation policy, and specifically, on the proposal to extend the Green Line from Heath Street to Hyde Square. Four different concepts for a Hyde Square terminus were unveiled and discussed. During the discussion local residents and merchants shared their questions and suggestions for this crucial improvement to transportation and quality of life in the Hyde Square area, which will have a positive effect on all of Jamaica Plain and greater Boston.
ACPT also enlisted the important support of the Hyde Square Task Force, whose Director wrote a strong letter to public officials endorsing the extension of the Green Line to Boston’s “Latin Quarter.”
Members of ACPT also met with Vineet Gupta, Director of Transportation Planning for the City of Boston and with Senator Sonia Chang Diaz’s Transportation Team. At both meetings all present were excited by the possibility of bringing the Green Line to Hyde Square and promised to continue to work together as we envision the extension. ACPT members also attended and discussed the Hyde Square extension at meetings sponsored by the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) and at the City of Boston’s 2030 town meeting held in Roslindale.
During 2016, we will intensify our efforts at meetings with public officials and community leaders in Hyde Square to garner even greater support from residents and business owners for the extension. Further we will have a presence at Wake Up the Earth Day near the Stony Brook Station in May (we hope you will stop by our table) and will follow up with a larger community meeting later in the year.
In the meantime, we seek your support in helping us to fund this effort to put Hyde Square to the MBTA subway map. Please send your tax-deductible check made out to “Arborway Committee for Public Transit, Inc.”
