Immediately Terminate Police Services Between City of Parkland FL & The Sheriff of Broward

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

We the People of Parkland, Florida demand the immediate termination of the Agreement for Police Services between the City of Parkland and The Sheriff Of Broward County.

The tragic school shooting which took place on February 14th, 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has shaken our peaceful city to the core, our children no longer feel safe and our parents are worried sending their children to unprotected schools.

In the aftermath of this horrific event it has become known that the resource officer assigned to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School failed to act to defend or protect our children.

It is also now known and under investigation that the Broward County Sheriff's Office had several deputies who were first to arrive on scene and yet failed to enter the school to protect our children from an active shooter and also failed to assist our children and teachers who were left injured inside the building. The simple fact is many of these children could have been saved if the Broward County Sheriff's Deputies had acted in a manner in which they are trained to do - they failed to serve and protect our community.

Evidence exists that Broward County Sheriff's Office ignored the threats of violence by this individual over the course of many years. We do not know how many more “ticking time bombs” Broward County Sheriff's Office failed to investigate and exist at our schools. As long as Sheriff Israel is in charge we can no longer rely on the Broward County Sheriff's Office to protect our children, our teachers and other school staff.

We as parents have no reason to believe that Broward County Sheriff Deputies will actively engage a school shooter under its current leadership.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office failed to act, not only in the immediate need of assistance at the time of the shooting, but also for years leading up to this act of evil. Although an FDLE investigation has commenced, we cannot wait for such an investigation which could take months or even years to make urgent safe decisions for our city.

We are calling for an immediate (90) ninety day notice of termination to be sent to the Sheriff Of Broward County and are requesting a new contract for Police Services with an alternate agency be executed without any further delay.
