Since the beginning of the academic year 2021, The Maldives National University have conducted online classes. With the change of the modality to online, the lecturers as well the management of the university have not adequately prepared the students for a face to face exam.

Several requests to change the modality of the exams have been sent to the university through the Students' Union. However, these requests has been mostly ignored. Failing to change the modality of the exam through this method, several students have personally approached the management of the university. However, there were no positive outcomes to these meetings.

The alarming increase in the Covid numbers in the capital city is one of the major reason for the student's demand for an online examination as well.
