A resident of Coffs Harbour was arrested and charged with animal cruelty on the 23rd of July 2021 after being reported for trapping and drowning this pet cat, Mango, in this garbage bin then taking photos and posting them to Facebook.

He did the same to another pet cat then mounted its’ dead body on a sign on his property visible to the public and posted the ghastly image to Facebook. Meanwhile its' desperate family were placing notices looking for it in the local lost animals FB group.

This cat was not feral but a pet. It was trusting and affectionate towards its’ abuser before he trapped, tortured and drowned it. It’s horrible to imagine the terror, desperation and suffering of its’ last moments of life.  Its’ owners are devastated and traumatized.

This man is a repeat offender and has, allegedly, done the same thing on at least several occasions, proudly boasting about his actions on social media. He uses “environmentalism” as an excuse for his sadistic behavior.

No genuine environmentalist thinks that you can solve the feral cat problem with individual acts of animal cruelty. These are the actions of  a cruel psychotic who seeks to justify and publicise his desire to torture and kill. Any cat caught on his property could simply be handed over the ranger or the RSPCA. The Coffs Harbour community is shocked and outraged by this inhumane cruelty. We must be the voice for the voiceless.

The full force of the law be must be used to ban this man from ever owning animals again and the maximum penalty of fines and/or imprisonment must be imposed. Governments and Judges please pay attention. Animal abuse is on the increase. People who abuse animals are not being punished properly for their crimes against the helpless. In June 2021 years of campaigning resulted in the animal cruelty laws being changed so that they would be more effective in deterring abusers. So….use them or they will be pointless. It’s time to punish offenders properly.

Animal lives matter and it's time to stand up for them and be heard. Send a clear message that animal abuse will not be tolerated in our communities and abusers are not welcome. Tell the magistrate to impose the full force of the new NSW Animal Cruelty Laws in this case.
