The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued several warnings to parents to exercise the "Precautionary Principle" and limit their children's exposure to cell phone radiation - the kind emitted from the towers at Sutherland and Mount Greenwood Elementary.

We are the parents of children at these schools and our right to control our children's exposure has been taken away.

The safety of this technology (especially for children and pregnant women) is still very much unknown and the WHO classifies it as a possible carcinogen.

In May the National Toxicology Program released the first findings from yet another study linking cellphone radiation to cancer.

We've taken readings and started testing schools in the 19th ward. What we found was that cellphone radiation on school grounds was magnitudes higher than a cellphone call. Levels at schools without this equipment are negligible.

The ramifications of this are very serious for our children and teachers.

Some studies investigating cellphone use and cancer have classified lifetime 'heavy' cellphone use as 1/2 hour per day every day for 10 years. This translates into approximately 1800 hours of lifetime use. Some studies have rounded this down to 1500 hours of lifetime use.

If the levels of exposure on school grounds are equal to the level of a cellphone call (and our readings suggest they're much higher) then by attending and working in one of the 20% of CPS schools that have these towers our children and teachers will receive the lifetime heavy usage dose in less than 2 years.

And that's in addition to the already high exposure they will receive throughout the course of their lives.

As bad as it now, we anticipate it will get worse. In the next 4 years they will begin rolling out a new 5G network. We expect them to upgrade, we expect the levels will increase, and it's our children that will be exposed.

You might ask "What about the money?". FOIA requests are still pending for Mt. Greenwood's records but here's how it breaks down at Sutherland:

The 2 cell towers on the smokestack bring in $80K a year, Sutherland used to get all of that but it was only a matter of time before CPS dipped in. Now Sutherland gets to keep a 1/3 divided among 700 or so students.

This translates to $38.09 per student per year.

Ask yourself how much risk to your child's health you'd be willing to accept for $38...20%, 10%, 1%? We spent more money than this on car seats, crib rails, bike helmets, and a myriad of other products to keep our kids safe and we'll be damned if we're going to have those efforts usurped to make up for the waste, inefficiency, and corruption which has been associated with CPS for decades.
