Demanding a Sanctuary for Hyenas in Lebanon –

This petition had 3,329 supporters

The Issue

The Striped Hyena – one of Lebanon’s indigenous wild animals, is facing massive extinction and is being endangered every day by Ignorance, unclear laws and the lack of serious enforcement of any regulations related to the protection of wild life and the ecosystem.

Striped Hyenas have an undeserved bad reputation.  In fact they are gentle, timid creatures that help in the prevention of contagious illnesses, and   benefit the entire eco-system.

Instead of being protected, they are hunted down, abused, brutally mistreated, and slaughtered for no reason!

In a very recent incident, a group of men ran over a hyena in Akkar, and instead of calling for police, veterinary or NGO Help, they filmed themselves as they slowly tortured the hyena before brutally shooting him more than 4 times in the head.  The culprits are well known!

We Ask the Lebanese Government to take serious and effective measures to

1.   Provide a proper and sustainable sanctuary for Hyenas in Lebanon.

2.    Enforce Strict Laws for the protection of wild life in Lebanon.

3.   Enforce punishment on perpetrators, always well known – due to public posting on social media.

4.    Educate Children in Schools That Animal Life Matters

By signing this petition, you will give a voice to mistreated Hyenas, and more importantly contributing to raising awareness and making a difference.

Together we can and will build a generation that respects Lebanon’s nature, and all living beings.
