URGENT: Save The KZN Doghouse from Closure!

If we are shut down… who will help them?

The KZN Doghouse, Durban South’s only no-kill dog shelter, is under immediate threat of closure. Not because we’ve failed our animals. But because a few voices, driven by a personal vendetta, are trying to shut us down with baseless, unverified complaints.

For years, we’ve been a sanctuary for over 800 abused, neglected, and abandoned dogs across KZN. Right now, 46 rescued dogs remain in our care, down from 80, after we were forced to relocate many due to intimidation and threats from residents of Hawk Street, Kharwastan (ironically, the same area many of our rescues come from).

We are not funded by the government or backed by wealthy donors. Our operations run on the personal salary of our 28-year-old founder, a young woman with nothing but determination, heart, and a deep belief in second chances.

Now, we’re facing threat of permanent closure.

The allegations? Unproven noise complaints and vague claims of “environmental bylaw violations.”

 The reality?
 ✅ We are correctly zoned.
✅ We have passed multiple audits by KZN authorities.
✅ We compost, recycle and abide to waste management regulations

This is not just about dogs. This is about community.

We’ve:

  • Provided emergency aid during floods, fires, and disasters
  • Supported children’s and old age homes
  • Partnered with schools and women-owned businesses
  • Helped families with food, water, and vet care
  • Worked alongside SAPS, the SPCA, and other rescue groups
  • Taken in the animals no one else would

And now? We are being punished for doing the right thing.

If The KZN Doghouse closes, our dogs, many healthy, happy, and fully rehabilitated, will be euthanised. Not because they’re sick. Not because they’re aggressive. But simply because they have nowhere else to go.

The SPCA is overwhelmed. Other shelters rely on us. There is no Plan B.

This is a call for help.
