Dear Supporter of the Counter Petition: Stop the ban on Angelina Jolie’s movie, UNBROKEN, in Japan
We now have more than 500 signatures from many people all over the world! So, in effect, we have a real petition, but this is only the beginning as we need more signatures to make a splash!
Thank you so much for signing our petition and leaving your compelling stories on the petition’s page. You have shown us that the past has left many scars on you and your families. These are not imaginary scars as the Japanese nationalists would have us believe but scars that lasted long after the war was over and in some families, lasted for several generations.
Louis Zamperini, the hero of the movie and book, was eventually able to forgive his captors and torturers. Forgiving the many atrocities certain Japanese officers committed during the war may or may not be feasible for many of you, but forgetting, as the Japanese nationalists want us to do now, is unforgivable, rubbing salt in many, many old wounds.
The Indo Project is committed to standing up for the truth about WWII in Asia every time anyone tries to deny it.
However, we need your HELP: encourage your children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors to sign, too. This is not an isolated story that happened to a select group; this was an international humanitarian story that the world needs to know about in order to prevent torture and human rights violations in the future.
Thousands of signatures are needed to draw attention and with so few (Hollywood) movies dealing with the war in Asia, this is an opportunity that won’t come around again soon. Let your voice be heard. If you lost more than one family member who died or survived, sign for each and every one of them. Or if you haven’t been in the war yourself or don’t have relatives or friends who went through the war, persuade your family and friends to sign to make sure revisionist history doesn’t become the only version of history handed down to the next generation(s).
We at The Indo Project thank you, and have been deeply moved by the outpouring of support thus far,
Inez Hollander Lake, Ph.D.
