Scrap the new parking time limit/charges in The Old Village, Shanklin, IOW

The Issue

As you may or may not be aware, the Isle of Wight Council have recently changed the charges and time limits for many of the Island's car parks such as Appley, Puckpool, Sandown seafront to name only a few.

They have imposed a maximum 3 hour stay in many popular tourist spots with a no return within 3 hour policy. They have also imposed 24 parking charges for many areas.

I am the Manager of The Rock Shop in Shanklin Old Village which sits directly opposite the main car park in the Old Village - Vernon Meadows - this popular tourist spot has now also been crippled by these ridiculous limits.

Since these time limits have been put in place we have had a huge number of complaints from locals and tourists about these changes and how they are going to affect the local businesses and attractions.

This new 3 hour time limit now means that you cannot park in the Old Village go for a stroll around, do some shopping and then have a spot of lunch without fear of having one of the dreaded yellow packets stuck onto your windscreen.

We are petitioning the council to take a long hard look at the way that these new parking time limits are going to affect an already struggling tourist economy and ask them to revert back to option of parking in the Old Village all day.

We are hoping that if enough people can take the time to sign this petition the Isle of Wight Council will have to take some notice to not only the Vernon Meadows car park but all of the other car parks on the Isle of Wight that have recently become the councils 'piggy bank'.
