We Want Ticketmaster Surcharges Capped!

The Issue

Ticketmaster have the monopoly on ticketing for events happening in Ireland. With no competitors, they are able to add whatever surcharges they want, referring to them as handling charges/service charges, and, most recently, a 'restoration fee'. Tickets are hard enough to come by, and paying for tickets by cash at Ticketmaster outlets used to help consumers avoid paying excess charges, but they have added handling charges to these transactions in recent times. We feel that this is robbery. Ticket prices are soaring, and the music industry depends on ticket sales in the face of a climate where streaming is the most common way people access music. Attending events is becoming tougher and tougher as ticket touts and touting websites are able to sell tickets for prices much higher than face value. The term 'face value' implies that when a ticket price is advertised, it is inclusive of all charges. This is often not the case. Buying more than one ticket sees a separate 'handling' charge for each ticket. We are asking the CCPC to address this problem and introduce a capping system on excess charges, as well as demanding transparency from Ticketmaster as prices advertised are not what consumers end up paying. Please sign - the way prices are going, the music industry is going to suffer more than it already is, and consumers are falling victims of a lack of transparency.
