The citizens of Townsville, and by dangerous precedent, the people of Queensland, draw attention to the materially damaging behaviour of the currently suspended mayor of Townsville Troy Thompson, which through reputational  damage, adversely affects the current and future economic progress and amenity of the city.

Mr Thompson, currently suspended on full pay ($225,000 p.a) awaiting the outcome of CCC investigations into his past, has clearly relinquished any thought of returning to te mayoral office. He is using his ratepayer funded 'holiday' to make wholly unsubstantiated claims about the councillors and executive staff who were instrumental in having him removed. Without offering any evidence beyond his opinion, he is calling for the dismissal of the entire council and its executive officers.

We, the citizens and ratepayers of Townsville, believe self-interest and financial gain are the motivations behind Mr Thompson's social media behaviour, with no thought to the damage he may be causing to an innocent populace. We demand that he be removed entirely from office, so an example can be set for other local government entities avoiding any similar crises.
