I am appalled that the nationwide use of the melody of this song has long been hidden. The orgins of the "ice cream trunk song" have been uncovered and revealed to be a song by Harry C. Browne called  "Nigger Love a Watermelon Ha!, Ha! Ha!". Early-1900s postcards often depicted African Americans as animalistic creatures "happy to do nothing but eat watermelon" – a bid to dehumanize them, and this song & melody is what is being used to entice our young minds to buy ice cream. If we are debating re-naming a football team due to racial insensitiveness then most assuredly something should be done here. Please sign this petition so the use of this song & melody can be removed from public use.
