Raise the bare minimum cage size for all hamsters to 600 sq inches in the US

Raise the bare minimum cage size for all hamsters to 600 sq inches in the US
The Issue
The current bare minimum for any hamster cage in the US is 450 sq inches. 450 sq inches is too small for any hamster. It is almost impossible to fit toys, multiple hideouts, a large sand bath, a properly sized wheel, and still have walking space in such a small space. Studies have proven that small cages have psychological effects on hamsters. In 2007 there was a study done to show how small cages can affect hamsters, even when hamsters were placed in cages as big as 1550 sq inches, they still exhibited signs of stress. This just goes to show that hamsters truly do need large cages. A lot of hamsters will still be unhappy with 600 sq inches, but it is a step in the right direction. Please share this petition with anyone you know who has hamsters so we can get the word out.
