Resettle The Afghan All-Girl Robotics Team in Canada

The Issue

Français

The Afghan All-Girl Robotics Team is still in Afghanistan. They have recently "begged" to be allowed to move to Canada. They face an uncertain future under Taliban rule.

Recently Prime Minister Trudeau announced that 20,000 Afghans will be resettled in Canada. These 20,000 individuals are to include women leaders amongst other vulnerable people. These young women are leaders, showing young women that STEM is not just a boys club. As part of Canada's support for vulnerable Afghans it is imperative that youth leaders such as these young women, the leaders of the future be included in these resettlement efforts.

These young women have demonstrated their dedication to the STEM field, winning silver at the FIRST Global Challenge in Washington DC for courageous achievement in 2017.

They are dedicated to their goals of becoming engineers. With the Taliban in control of Kabul and the rest of Afghanistan it is unlikely that these young leaders will see their dreams come to fruition without the help of the Canadian government. Already it is being reported that girls as young as 12 are being taken from their homes forced to marry Taliban fighters.

Now is not the time for long winded debates. It is time for action and to do the right thing.  The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship by all measures should resettle the Afghan All-Girl Robotics Team and their families here in Canada.
