The Issue

Just over a year ago, I married an amazing woman that I met on a Christian dating site. We had been in a long distance relationship since June of 2018 before marrying in November 2019. Needless to say, the day I had to say goodbye to my wife, as a newlywed, was one of the most difficult moments of my life. But I had assumed, since I am a Canadian, and since my wife is now married to a Canadian, that my government who exists to serve the needs of its citizens, would approve a visitors visa application and we would be reunited in a reasonable amount of time. This has been anything but the case. The Embassy of Canada in the Philippines has denied the application for visitors visa 4 times for no logical reason. We have addressed their concerns assuring them we will abide by the terms of the visa because we would not do anything to jeopardize the permanent residence application. They have taken our money but not given the application a serious consideration in my opinion. In Canada, the average wait time for spousal applications (permanent residence) under normal circumstances is 12 months. With Covid, this is now delayed further.
With the second wave and this new strain, we are now facing the potential of more lockdowns and more potential delays in being reunited. The past year has created undue hardship to me and my family and probably countless other families like us. I am faced with having to travel to the Philippines to visit my wife. This is risky and also causes loss of income and the potential to get stranded in the Philippines indefinitely. The government has the ability to rectify the situation by simply granting a visitor visa and by fixing an immigration system that is very inefficient.
I am requesting that you sign my petition to get the government to change the way it processes spousal applications and reduce the wait time well below the current 12 month average. Further the government should adopt a policy of granting visitors visas to spouses of Canadians without delay.
